Our 2017 Partners-in-Science Grantee is Dr. Matthew Dean. Please click here to learn more about Dr. Dean’s research and the impact his work is having on helping to find a cure.

Dr. Dean is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Joanna Burdette at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). One of the reasons ovarian cancer is so deadly is in part because of how it grows and spreads, many times undetected. From Dr. Dean’s Project Summary:

This research study aims to look at the role of ovulation in the spread of tumors and identifies potential targets of prevention. The research will identify multiple steps in colonization of the ovary that may be targeted to develop new therapies for this deadly disease.

Our sincere hope is that with enough research funding, more and more can be learned about ovarian cancer, how it grows, spreads, and what potential treatments (preventative or otherwise) can be used to save the lives of future generations.
